The flowering soybean came from the pot without worms. The pH test proved that the pot with worms had a ph of 8 and the one without had a pH of 7.5. The last picture shows that beneath our pots was a tub which our excapeing earthworms fell to. We tragically found six out of ten of our worms dried on the lid. We did not find the other four in the soil, we can only be hopeful they made it out of the green house.

Improvements:
  • Better greenhouse conditions
  • Longer time period for the experiment
  • Bigger pots
  • More worms
  • More sunlight

Our hypothesis was not correct for our experiment due to our results. If our experiment would have been conducted correctly we would have been closer.

Our Faults:

  • Earthworm escapees
  • Disapearance
  • Freezing temperature
  • Possible over watering

Our total growth is in our first picture. The second picture we discovered while taking out the plants an earthworm tunnel. In the third picture is our plants from the pot with the earthworms, the first one has major freeze damage and the other two are new growth after the freeze. The Nodules are from our non earthworm experiment, it was the largest plant and produced these. The self nitrogen producing plant has theses and when cut in half the pink shows that the bacteria is working. The last picture has our plants from the non earthworn pot. The large plant made it through the freeze. After the freeze we planted four new seeds which sprouted, yet the earthworm pot grew more.

Living in Kansas we have learned to expect anything. But this past weekend we were not ready for the unexpected snow. Our greenhouse temperatures reached freezing. One out of four of our soybean plants luckily was hardy enough to make it. Our others unfortunately did not. We have planted four more seeds in the same pots. Our worms should have made it through, we won't know until the end of our experiment.

Our plants had spring break to thrive. So far the soybean plant in the unwormed pot is growing larger. But our soybeans planted with worms are healthy plants also.

We have growth!!! It's so exciting!! Our soybeans are going to grow up to be big! The pot with the earthworms is just sprouting in the lower left of the piture you can barley see it but it will soon break through.

Nothing is growing yet in our pots yet we are very hopeful we will see new life arise from our soil. The yellow pot represents contamination so this is where we house our ten earthworms. The white pot symbolizes the purity of the soil, accordingly this pot has no earthworms.
